Game #6 : Galactic Gladiators

PreviousPage 5 of 24Next

So, what can we do with the prisoners. If someone wants to join the merry mess, I'd be up for it.

We sacrifice the others for the Gods, of course. Do they still do Blood Eagles in the grim darkness of the GALACTIC GLADIATORS timeline?

For the survivors, how about keeping them as slaves/unpaid interns? I'll need someone to sharpen my laser sword :p

I'd be down to join a mini campaign too!

I second that motion.

Join? Die! Join? Die!

Yes, slaves. We'll keep them as slaves.

Of course I didn't learn anything new. Learning is for those weak humans and Koracis, not sturdy Dulbians.

Yeah, this didn't satisfy my urge for bloodlust. I'm ready for  a mini campaign. Perhaps there, I can have some fun.

Well, none of them accepted your offer before bleeding to death.

Meanwhile, let me introduce you to Porkbelly. He has a phaser, a slicer, a leather armor and calls everyone "partner"

What is a slicer you ask ? Well, according to the manual "the slicer is similar to the vibro knife, but larger and more powerful." What is a vibro-knife you now ask ? Well, it is a weapon that no one has, because Captain Grimlock wisely decided he would not go melee.

In any case, the slicer is the step above the laser sword, below the disruptor.

@Strange : I consider you join the campaign as well. I will probably update Monday evening, I need to create the next battle.

Cripes, I've been drafted!

By the way, I was going to make an appeal to the galactic court regarding punishment of the prisoners. The words "waterboarding", "castration" and "RPGWatch" were to figure. But it looks like that problem has solved itself.

Still time to join?

If so: Koraci, Phaser, Stun Wand, no armor.

Woo! Another Koraci!

Part II

"Thanks for nothing", said Fellow. "I had the situation well in hands. Seen that gemstone ? I could have handled the four of them - alone."

"Then you are exactly the kind of person I was looking for !" exclaimed Captain Grimlock. "I think I have a very interesting offer for you. Interesting for both of us."

The group looked at the diminutive humanoïd. With 4 bodies behind them, there was no reason trying to pretend not being the kind of people accepting "very interesting offers". They remained silent, and waited.

"You see, something important to me has been stolen to me by the humans. This... thing... is currently somewhere in the human embassy, most probably. I need a group to sneak in with me, recover the package, and leave. The package itself is worthless to almost everyone, but incredibly precious to one person I know."

The group remained silent.

"I mean, she will pay a lot of money for sure !"

Fellow looked at the Captain Grimlock with disdain :

"I am not sure who you think we are, Mister...

"Captain !"

"Let me tell you something, CaPtAiN. This looks like a highly illegal stealth mission in an embassy, and there is something I want you to understand... there is no way me and my boys do any "stealth" mission in a tactical RPG not designed around stealth - the line-of-sights are always horribly buggy, the UI unadapted and those missions consistently end in disaster."

Captain Grimlock could not say a word... if not them, then who ?

"We won't be doing this, but if you said "Humans", then I know someone..."

A short while later, Captain Grimlock, Rutus, Fellow, Skosveinn, Andnjord and the weird Ostrich were at "someone's" called Porkbelly.

"I am not sure how you imagined your plan would have worked, except if you imagined ransacking the whole embassy to find... whatever it is you want to get back. But if that package is, as you say, precious, I know someone who will know where it is."

"And will THAT person tell ?"

"Not if we ask nicely. But I will make sure he does. You see, I am thinking of the ambassador himself. If you have the ambassador, then you quickly have whatever you want from the embassy."

"The amb..."

"Of course, he will thave to be captured alive while he is out in the streets. That means stunned - this should be easy - then carried away by someone strong. A Dulbian or a Zorcon, if we can. A Froglodyte or a Wodanite, if we must. Of course, there is the slight problem that he will have guards with him. Four or five guards, and, well, Squeezie."

"Squeezie ?"

"Squeezie the maniac Oranguphin. Master of gemstones. The last demonstration against the embassy when the Humans annexed Procyon IV ended up in a bloodbath, and no one could prove anything, because he is that good with gemstones. He will be a problem for you... for us."

"For us ?!"

"For us. I am coming with you. I can smell profit. And I take my boy Kalarion with me. He can make ambassadors talk. And make sure that captured mobsters, or deserters, don't !"

And yes, Oranguphins are a real thing from the manual ; as I said the game has many absurd races, and of course I had to use some of them.

Map incoming.

So here is map - created by me, because I am something of an artist sometimes.A street, a park, some parked future cars, some appartement buildings.

The good news :

  • This time, I won't pull a secret team from another forum. It will be me against you. Ok, maybe not good news.
  • It is an ambush, so
    • you can change your starting weapons,
    • you choose where you deploy at the start (basically, tell me below this post)
    • you will get a free turn... probably. Depends on your experience,
    • you get to decide where the ambassador starts specifically, though it MUST be along the top sidewalk (between the cars and the buildings). The "escort" will be deployed around the ambassador,
    • You can "hide" in one (or several) of the buildings, in which case the door will be removed. You cannot open a door after the battle has started. Except if you are Andnjord, because he has a "weapon" that can blow stuff up.
  • The ambassador does not have any weapon. Yej !

The bad news :

  • This is a capture mission, so you need to STUN the ambassador and drag & exit him either in the street at the bottom or through the park in the North (you need to choose BEFORE the battle starts, because you will hide a vehicle there).
  • To drag the ambassador, you need to need to stun him then have a Dulbian, a Zorcon, a Froglodyte or a Wodanite next to him, after which the ambassador will be dragged (basically, I will move him so he follows). Dulbians  & Zorcons are stronger so they can drag him two tiles by round, Frog and Wodanite only one. You cannot do anything else except drag.
  • If you stun the ambassador, he will remain stunned as long as any character (even a Koraci) is next to him.
  • You fail if the ambassador exits by the left or the right. You also lose if you kill the ambassador, obviously.
  • If you neutralize everyone and stun the ambassador, you win too. I am pretty sure it will be your master plan.

Okay. Let’s talk strategy before we decide on anything.

We can deploy anywhere, and we choose the starting position of our target. Do we bunch up? Do we deploy spread out?
I think we should give the ambassador almost 0 movement options. Far left corner sound good?

Before we talk strategy I'll remove my leather trousers. Going commando is faster and sexier... Pardner.

Strange FellowKalarion

Before Porkbelly can go commando, I'll punch him in the face. No one wants to see that.

Well, we don't want the ambassador to run out of the left or the right, so I think we should spawn him in the middle, in front of the doorless building, then we'll surround him.

I vote we park in the woods and hit the ambassador when he's center map on the top sidewalk. We stream out the buildings from either side and across the street.

Pin him and bag him. If he runs we sic the ostrich on him.

Any intel on the ambassador's security detail? Numbers, expertise levels?

Also, can I only blow up doors or can I blow up walls too?

Before Brutus Trump punches Porkbelly for going commando, I try to explain to him that he doesn't want to see that because of society's coercive and oppresive conditioning. He should instead work on freeing his mind from its shackles and accept that all bodies are beautiful and worthy. Besides, it will surely give us a tactical advantage by shocking and appaling the ambassador's security detail.

I am 90% sure that you can blow whatever, once. I will need to double check at home.

Confirmed security detail is Squeezie and 4 - 5 humans. Training for the humans is unknown but it is certainly nothing elite, and unlikely to carry gemstones. Squeezie, on the other hand, is elite and has enough gemstones on him to rain death on you.

VIP also like to have a Dulbian with them,it is important to be seen with a Dulbian in public so people think you are important - ask Captain Grimlock. In this case it is not certain there will be one, as maybe the ambassador believes that Squeezie is enough social prestige. Probably not.

Speaking of which, is there a way to generate random number for everyone to see. I want to create a "What could go wrong" table, and have one of you roll publically on it at the beginning :).

I don’t know, but I know Board Game Geek’s forums have a built in die roller.

How about a tactical disadvantage from how _we_'ll be shocked and appalled by that?

For dice rolls, I remember CYOA forums using a rolz  room that everyone can see.

For the start position, I say we avoid starting together, because a big group would be too vulnerable to Squeezie's grenades. Having the ambassador at the middle seems like the best option, that'd leave us the most time before he can run away.

Sounds like we have a plan maybe. I'll start in the big house center south. Phasor at the ready, Slicer sheathed atwixt codpiece.
