Shattered Alliance - Defeat of the Beasts scenario AAR

Quote from GregNails on 9 February 2025, 9h21The year 785 was supposed to bring peace, but instead it brought even more chaos to Osgoth. The kingdoms of Northwold and Far Reach made peace after a long conflict. Their armies were reduced. No one yet knew that the wizard Ormulu had been planning to provoke a more serious conflict for some time. Thanks to his intrigues, the Zorgs managed to organize themselves and create an army. It was strengthened by the demons who had lived on the eastern coast of Osgoth until then. Lizardmen also joined. Now, knowing that neither kingdom had a strong army, Ormulu directed his newly formed forces towards Northwold.
King Noran, the ruler of Northwold, realized quite late how serious the situation was. His own army was small. The only thing he could count on were reinforcements from other races - elves, dwarves, valkyries and centaurs. Gathering an army, Noran blocked the path of the approaching Zorg forces, basing his army on a forested hill. He knew that if he lost, there would be no one left to stop these monsters from advancing.
Let's look at our forces. Northwold's army consists of Valkyrie light cavalry, dwarven and amazon heavy infantry, and elven light infantry. Most of the units can shoot. My troops aren't particularly numerous, though.
The monster army consists entirely of infantry. Zorgs and lizardmen dominate here, but one unit of heavy infantry is demons. The enemy troops are better armored, but slower and don't have as many ranged units. They are mostly quite large, though.
Northwold's army is concentrated in a small area, with infantry in the front line and cavalry gathered behind them. The monster troops are more widely spread out, with demons in the center. My plan is to move the cavalry out to the northern flank and fire on the enemy. The distance between the two armies is considerable, so I hope to inflict some losses on them. Ideally, the cavalry can even enter the rear of the monster army. If any of their units are routed, they can cut off their path and destroy them. But I must be careful, because this cavalry (mostly Valkyries on unicorns) is quite weak in melee. In the meantime, the infantry must hold the front, avoiding fighting the demons as much as possible. The enemy has a morale advantage at the beginning.
The monster troops start to attack, while the alliance cavalry comes out to their flank. The pressure of the Zorgs and Demons strike shifts to the southern wing. This is dangerous, because if they surround my dwarves who are defending there, I don't know if I can hold this position. My fire is not causing any serious damage to the enemies so far.
Fortunately, the Zorgs show that they are not particularly intelligent and a bottleneck forms on the southern flank, forcing them to attack with only a part of their forces. I take advantage of this opportunity, my dwarves break one of their units. The second Zorg unit, greatly weakened by the Valkyries' fire, is broken by the Amazons.
I slowly manage to carry out my plan. The Zorg troops spread out in lines, and my cavalry fires at them from behind. I also managed, for now, to avoid a confrontation with the demons, which could have been fatal for even my best units.
The enemy is attacking again in the south. I slowly withdraw here to avoid being surrounded, but I press hard in the south, where I managed to destroy one of the routed enemy units. With one destroyed and two routed units, the Zorgs' morale has already dropped significantly.
My dwarves withraw deeper into the forest, and the demons follow. It is pretty good, since these stupid demons are following dwarves, leaving my other units alone. This allows me to concentrate the rest of my forces and strike to break one more enemy unit. This is enough to demoralize the Zorg army and cause their remaining units to flee in panic.
The alliance wins the battle, with king Noran and his allies slaughtering the retreating Zorgs, making sure that not many of them will see next day. Valkyries, still remembering that traitorous attack from the past and massacre of their fellows, are especially hungry for Zorg's blood, killing as many of these creatures as possible.
