Shattered Alliance - Battle of two kingdoms scenario AAR

The pact concluded in 775 ended the ongoing war in Osgoth between different races. It led to the creation of two strong kingdoms, Northwold and Far Reaches. However, the initial cooperation between the two countries quickly began to complicate. The cause was personal misunderstandings between the kings of both countries, Noran of Northwold and Gavin of Far Reaches. Gavin grew in power thanks to magic and consistently refused to reveal its sources to his ally. Only with time did it turn out that he was working with the sorcerer Ormulu, who helped him tame the demons.

The growth of Far Reaches' power worried King Noran. He declared Ormulu a wanted bandit and, having gathered allies, including elves and valkyries, set off south to defeat Gavin before he grew even stronger. Little did he know that he was doing exactly what Ormulu had hoped for, who wanted both kingdoms to exhaust their forces in a fratricidal war.

Let's look at the strength of both armies. The Northwold has mix of various races, elves (light infantry and excellent archers), some heavy cavalry (centaurs and humans) and light cavalry (valkyries on unicorns). The problem is the lack of good infantry, we only have one unit of amazons here.

The forces of Far Reaches are mainly humans, although their strongest unit is demons, courtesy of Ormulu, very strong infantry. They also have some cavalry and medium and light infantry. Their troops are better armed than mine, but they are worse when it comes to ranged weapons.

My army, Northwold, consists of two wings - the northern one is the "heavy" wing, consisting of heavy and light cavalry and amazons, while the southern one consists mainly of light units, elven archers and valkyries. King Gavin has placed his strongest units in the center, while the wings are manned by lighter units.

My plan is to attack on the northern wing of the Far Reaches army. This is where I will look for a solution. In the south I intend to move forward, but then retreat and fire on the enemy (elves have a long range of fire, as much as three fields), avoiding, if possible, engaging in hand-to-hand combat until I weaken the enemy. In the center I must count on my amazons. I hope that the fight with the demons will not break out too soon, since they are formidable opponents.

At first, both armies are heading towards each other. On the northern wing, there is an exchange of blows between the light cavalry of both sides. The enemy cavalry pushed forward quite strongly, thanks to which they fell right into my trap, being attacked and sprayed with javelins. Unfortunately, at this time a unit of my valkyries ran into the demons. They are a terrible opponent, in one attack they tore to pieces almost half of my valkyries and their unicorns, turning them into bloody mess and eating their victims alive. I was surprised that the unit was not immediately defeated, but despite this massacre it maintained its formation. This valkyries are die hards, definitely.

My plan is being implemented – the cavalry on the northern wing is effectively beating the humans, breaking one of their light cavalry units and inflicting losses on the infantry. In the center and on the southern flank, there is peace, because the enemy infantry is moving slowly. I am counting on the fact that I may be able to bring the enemy's morale down considerably before the main forces of both armies clash.

Unfortunately, the enemy changes the direction of their march, instead of attacking the main line of my troops, they attack north, attacking my cavalry from the flank. Unfortunately, the effects are disastrous, the Valkyrie and Centaur units are broken. What is worse, one of them is fleeing straight towards the enemy. The situation is becoming very difficult, because I have nothing to support them with. I can hope that they will be able to retreat and organize themselves.

Unfortunately, my fleeing centaurs, surrounded by the enemy, are wiped out completely, till the last man. Meanwhile, a horde of demons is attacking in the center. Amazons, protected by elven archers, try to stop these terrible creatures, but the power of their attack is monstrous. Although I managed to rally the broken cavalry units on the northern wing, they are severely weakened. My morale has fallen very low.

In a last attempt to change the situation, I attack with my weakened cavalry and amazons. It is a desperate attack that has little chance of success. And unfortunately, it ends predictably - the Northwold units are defeated and my army, suffering great losses, flees the battlefield, losing the day.

The fleeing amazons and valkyries are pursued by hordes of hungry demons, devouring alive every captured human and Valkyrie. Only the elves, maintaining their formation, are able to withdraw from the clash relatively safely. Northwold army is destroyed and king Gavin has an open way north. King Noran managed to escape, but with his army slaughtered, he has a little chance to halt army of Far Reaches.
